Veneers Q & A
What are veneers?
Veneers are extremely thin porcelain shells that Dr. Salinas bonds to the front of any tooth you want to transform. Once the veneer is in place, people see it instead of the tooth behind it. As a result, veneers completely change the appearance of your tooth. This makes them ideal for correcting:
- Gapped teeth
- Discolored teeth
- Too-short teeth
- Uneven teeth
- Chipped teeth
- Worn teeth
You can choose to get a veneer over a single problem tooth, veneers for a few teeth, or you can opt for a full set of veneers, transforming your smile completely. In fact, in some cases, veneers can be used to give you the appearance of straight, aligned teeth without the need for braces.
Talk with Dr. Salinas about your smile goals. He can help you identify when veneers are the right choice and when another treatment may be better suited to correct your cosmetic issue. At My Woodbridge Dental, he offers the latest in cosmetic dentistry — like Invisalign® instead of traditional braces — to help you get your best smile.
What’s the process like for getting veneers?
During your first appointment, you talk with Dr. Salinas about the changes you’d like to see to your tooth or teeth. He then prepares any teeth that will be getting a veneer by removing a very small amount of enamel from the surface of the tooth. This allows the veneer to lie flush with your surrounding teeth and gumline.
He then takes a mold of the prepared tooth so the veneer is created to fit precisely over it. He also gathers additional information to ensure the veneer’s shape and color match your surrounding teeth perfectly.
Once your veneer or veneers are ready, you return to My Woodbridge Dental to have them bonded to your teeth. This is a quick process, and you leave the appointment with a refreshed, beautified smile.
How do I care for my veneers?
You care for your veneers just like your natural teeth. Brush and floss daily, avoid staining foods and drinks, and visit My Woodbridge Dental biannually for a dental exam and professional teeth cleaning. With proper care, your veneers should last a decade or more.
